Ephesus is one of the most complete ancient cities in the Mediterranean: the marble street, the Library of Celsus, the theatre built for twenty-five thousand. The Terrace Houses, ticketed separately, show how the wealthy families lived — mosaics and wall painting still in place.
Pamukkale is white travertine terraces formed by calcium-rich thermal water, and above them stands Hierapolis with its necropolis and its ancient pool. You fly into İzmir or Denizli; the two sites together want two days.
