Asian Istanbul: Kadıköy and Üsküdar
The other side of the city, where there is almost no queue and the food is better.
About this tour
We cross by ferry, which is how the city crosses. In Kadıköy the market is fish, cheese, olives and pickles, and by late afternoon the tables take over the street. Moda runs down to the water along a promenade where nobody is in a hurry.
Üsküdar is older and quieter, with its Ottoman mosques and the Maiden's Tower just offshore. This is the day for people who have seen the monuments and now want to see the city.
Where this day goes

The Maiden's Tower
An islet mid-current, with two thousand years of usefulness and a better legend.
